Back in the dark ages, the days of disco, when I was a little girl, I attended school in Brooklyn in my home-sewn, bell-bottom pants, and the importance of a capital letter at the beginning of my name was lost on me. Hence the nickname earned while I was still a cute diminutive person: the lowercase b.
So I reclaim it here in homage to the days when I first learned to read and write, two things which became, in adulthood, two joys.
Why a blog? I don't know. I am an avid reader who loves to share my opinions on what I've read, to hear what other people thought of those books and very much enjoys matching up the right person with their right books.
People often ask, have you read anything good lately? Do you have any suggestions for my book club? When I'm browsing book sales, they ask, have you read this? Or, I overhear someone searching and I suddenly become their self-appointed personal shopper. Perhaps I'm doing this for the ease of having one click when someone asks for a book rec. If so, then there we go. That's a reason, so I'll go on...
I will review books. Simple enough. It may be one book or five each week. It may be a classic that I've revisited or never before picked up. It could likely be non-fiction since that's at least 60% of what I read. It might be a current best seller, a past best seller or a more obscure piece of fiction. It may be a YA book and I may even talk about the children's chapter books I'm reading aloud with my kids. If I loved it I'll tell you. And I'll tell you if I thought it was a clunker. I'll also tell you why. One man's trash... Who knows? You may read to find out which books I hated so you can grab them from the library.
I read, therefore I am,
the lowercase b
