New Day. New Year. New Reading Goal.

Starting over at one.  After finishing a grand total gross of books in 2012, I start over with book number one and reset my goal for 2013.  Last year, I set a goal of 120 books.  Though I surpassed that, I set the same goal for 2013.

Truthfully, I'm not a fan of having book goals, but it keeps me chugging along.

I think a better measure of how much reading we've done in a year is how many pages.  I always say, how many books?  Who cares?  One year, I'm going to sit down with Roots, Anna Karenina, the best doorstop of a Harry Potter I can find, War and Peace, Gone With the Wind, etc.  At the end of the year I will have read a grand total of what?  30 books?  But it's not the amount of tally marks we accrue.  It's the information we gather, the entertainment we enjoyed and the places we traveled all thanks to someone who created a world full of people who miraculously came to life on a flat piece of paper or who researched something so fully so we could learn without ever having to leave home.
